Tint Dance Festival is a project that I founded with my dance bestie, Sue Ann Huang. During a dance performance back in 2016 we noticed that there was a lack of people of color represented on stage. We didn't know if this was an oversight or purposeful of the artistic director or if it was because there was a lack of strong POC dancers to put on stage. Either way, as people of color we want to see people on stage representative of ourselves and the world around us. It was then that we decided that we needed to do something about it. And the Tint Dance Festival was born. Now as a part of the Seattle dance community, we’ve been able to initiate a dialogue among other artists about diversity and representation. In addition, we are providing opportunity to dancers of color to support and nurture them in dance.
Putting together the Tint Dance Festival has been no easy task. It is similar to starting your company. But I have found it to feed my heart and soul more so than any job that I have ever had. Tint Dance Festival has allowed me to harness one of my passions to give back to the community and be part of a solution that has plagued our society,
The 1st Annual Tint Dance Festival is scheduled for February 9 – 10, 2018 at the Erickson Theater.
