We are committed to the creation of new works that directly address challenges experienced by young people and their families. Incorporating both classical and contemporary music, we explore themes such as self discovery, family relationships, and issues of equality. The ultimate goal is to produce work that is relevant to the development of young people and sparks enthusiasm for classical music both vocal and orchestral. We also strive to create programs that are accessible to all audiences and open a door to experiencing live performance.
The Moore Artist Collective is currently developing the one-woman operatic stage play, I AM AN OPERA, for family audiences. It highlights the voice and talents of soprano, Rachel DeShon in collaboration with Playwright/Director Robert Morgan and Composer/Music Producer Avi Lasser. I AM AN OPERA charts the course of one young girls graceful, bumbling and at times harrowing journey to becoming fully human. It explores the vast pallet of sounds we make as humans and how these various sounds, the physical, vocal and mechanical, impact the tradition of Classical music. Rachel and Robert are also the co-founders and directors of the Moore Artist Collective and are recognized as innovative leaders in their respective fields. With a voice that has been called “undeniably fantastic”, Rachel DeShon, winner of Marvin Hamlisch’s Search for a Star is at home with symphonies, opera houses, theatre productions and even circus tents. Rachel has proven herself to be an extremely versatile performer and strives to use the classical voice in unexpected, non-traditional ways. Robert Morgan’s multi award winning plays have helped establish new international standards for the creation of theatrical works for young audiences. His play, Morganʼs Journey, is the longest touring play in Canadian history, has been called “a true classic”. His work has helped establish Canada as one of the world’s foremost producers of theatre for young audiences.
Moore Artist Collective’s Rachel DeShon and Robert Morgan have been invited to the Banff Centre for the Arts in February 2018 to participate in a 3-week program entitled ‘’Concert in the 21st Century’ for development of I AM AN OPERA. This program is tailored perfectly to their purposes and the invitation to participate is as promising an opportunity to take the next step towards excellence as is currently offered anywhere in the world.
