The FELT Road

BACKGROUND

The Felt Road concept has been evolving for the past 18 years through Janice Arnold's art practice - JA FELT. Her passion for wool, the science and mystery of Felt, along with its deep history, inspired her early on to incorporate and self-fund textile education as part of her work. As time passed, many passionate volunteers & patrons have generously shared time and money to help support her educational and experiential textile-based art installations. As a consequence, thousands of people have been impacted globally!

However as project demands increased, it has become financially unrealistic to continue using Arnold's private project revenue, volunteers and a small circle of patrons to sustain quality events and enable The Felt Road projects and programming to grow globally to places like Central Asia and beyond!

Thanks to Shunpike's Fiscal Sponsorship program, The FELT Road is now a 501(c3) non-profit! Their time-tested approaches and systems for by managing donations, providing comprehensive support for taxes and administrative work will allow us to focus, grow and expand in alignment with our global mission! Just like every individual whisp of wool will felt together to create a beautiful piece of Felt - every donation of any size will make a difference!

THE FELT ROAD MISSION

To build a global community through wool-based textiles, using participatory experiences with diverse groups to foster intercultural understanding through traditional nomadic felting processes.

We are committed to amplifying the voices, stories, and philosophies of indigenous artisans, and encouraging awareness in art, science, and history while celebrating Felt collaboratively as a traditional and contemporary living art form and enduring social fabric.
